What is AB SMS Banking?

Banking through your mobile phone – is the service that AB Bank provides to its customers through AB SMS Banking. Customers can do day to day banking activities on their mobile at their convenient time 24 hours a day 7 days a week by sending required SMS instruction to 16207

  • Regular banking activities e.g. balance enquiry, generate mini statement, check linked accounts, transfer funds between accounts.
  • Pay utilility bills. At present,(Dhaka WASA bills are accepted currently)
  • Pay mobile phone bills for post-paid connections and Top up / recharge pre-paid mobile phone balance.

How to Register for AB SMS Banking?

For registration, customers must be an AB Bank Account Holder. A customer can contact Account Opening Desk of any AB Bank Branches and fill out a Form to register for the service.

Is there any service charge associated with SMS Banking?

A yearly fee as per Bank’s Schedule of Charges shall be charged for SMS Alert services. Standard SMS fees / rate shall be applicable as per Mobile Phone Operators policy.

Does a customer need to register for services separately - i.e. Fund Transfer, Utility Bills Pay etc.?

At present, by a single registration to SMS Banking customer may perform Mobile Phone recharge / bill payment and Dhaka WASA utility bill payment. Soon, fund transfer to other AB Bank account, DESCO / DPDC utility bill payment shall be available.

How to top up / recharge a mobile balance?

Pre-paid Account Recharge (Own mobile number - which has been registered with AB SMS Banking)

Customer can recharge the pre-paid account simply :

By typing " TOP PIN Amount " e.g. | TOP 1234 50 | and sending the SMS to 16207

Here,

  • TOP is the service code for prepaid top-up
  • 1234 is the PIN (Personal Identification Number)
  • 50 (for example) is the amount to be recharged
  • 16207 is the designated short code for AB Bank

Pre-paid Account Recharge (Other Mobile Number)

Customer can also recharge other mobile numbers :

By typing " TOP PIN Amount Mobile Number " | TOP 1234 50 01199999999 | and sending the SMS to 16207

Here,

  • TOP is the service code for prepaid top-up
  • 1234 is the PIN (Personal Identification Number)
  • 50 (for example) is the amount to be recharged
  • MobileNumber is the other mobile number
  • 16207 is the designated short code for AB Bank

Post-paid bill Payment (Own mobile number - which has been registered with AB SMS Banking)

Customer can pay post-paid bill :

By typing " BILL PIN Amount " e.g.| BILL 1234 500 | and sending the SMS to 16207

Here,

  • BILL is the service code for post-paid bill pay
  • 1234 is the PIN (Personal Identification Number)
  • 500 (for example) is the amount to be paid
  • 16207 is the designated short code for AB Bank

Post-paid bill Payment (Other Mobile Number)

Customer can also pay other post-paid mobile phone bills :

By typing " BILL PIN Amount Mobile Number " and sending the SMS to 16207

Here,

  • BILL is the service code for postpaid bills pay
  • 1234 is the PIN (Personal Identification Number)
  • 500 (for example) is the amount to be paid
  • Mobile Number is the other mobile number
  • 16207 is the designated short code for AB Bank

Can a Customer recharge any Mobile Operators' Number?

Yes, a customer can recharge any mobile operators' number except Tele Talk’s post-paid mobile numbers. Below Table depicts availability of mobile operators:

What is the Minimum & Maximum Limit for Top up Transaction?

A user can recharge / top up a mobile phone number as low as for Tk. 10 only.

A user can recharge /top up a mobile phone number for a maximum amount of Tk. 1,000 only for pre-paid connections and Tk. 5,000 only for post-paid connections.

Will the Mobile Phone Operator charge any fees for this Service?

Yes, Mobile phone operators shall charge standard SMS rate for sending any SMS

Shall Customer get any notification or confirmation message on bill payment or balance recharge?

Customer shall receive a SMS notification confirming the payment and balance deduction from customer’s account.

Which utility bills can be paid via AB SMS Banking?

At present, Dhaka WASA bills can be paid through AB SMS Banking.

How to pay Dhaka WASA bills via AB SMS Banking?

A customer can pay Dhaka WASA bill by sending a SMS as below:

PAY PIN WASA WASA ACNO BILLNO | PAY 1234 WASA 0901237369 140900148347 | and send to 16207

  • PAY is the service code for bill payment
  • 1234 is the PIN (Personal Identification Number)
  • 0901237369 is the WASA Account Number (please refer to Image 1)
  • 140900148347 is the WASA Bill Number (please refer to Image 1)
  • 16207 is the designated short code for AB Bank

How to enquire about Dhaka WASA bill amount and status?

A customer can enquire about any Dhaka WASA bill status by sending a SMS as below

ENQ PIN WASA WASA ACNO BILLNO | ENQ 1234 WASA 0901237369 140900148347 | and send to 16207

  • ENQ is the service code for bill payment
  • 1234 is the PIN (Personal Identification Number)
  • 0901237369 is the WASA Account Number (please refer to Image 1)
  • 140900148347 is the WASA Bill Number (please refer to Image 1)
  • 16207 is the designated short code for AB Bank

WILL THERE BE ANY RECEIPT FOR PAYMENT?

After making payment via SMS, a customer can enquire about bill status for confirmation of payment. Receipt shall not be required for such case. Customer shall also get an SMS notification for successful transaction on his/ her account.

What will happen if a customer cannot make payment for WASA bills?

In case, a customer cannot make payment for WASA bills, points mentioned below can bechecked:

  • Customer must be registered for AB SMS Banking
  • A Customer must have sufficient balance in his /her account to make a payment. To check availability of sufficient balance, customer can always do a ‘Balance Inquiry’ by sending ‘BAL PIN’ SMS to 16207.
  • Customer must have sufficient balance in his / her mobile phone to send an SMS.
  • WASA account and bill number must be checked for any error.
  • Lastly, customer shall contact his / her WASA revenue zone.
